To get your Virginia driver’s license, you must pass the official Virginia DMV written knowledge test. The test covers traffic signs, safe driving techniques, and Virginia’s motor vehicle laws.
The Virginia DMV exam is a two-part test: 10 road sign questions (must get all 10 correct) + 25 general knowledge questions (need at least 20 correct, or 80%). All questions are based on the official Virginia driver’s manual (Virginia DMV Handbook (VA Driver’s Manual) 2026).
This is our second Virginia Permit Practice Test, current for May 2026 and based on the official driver’s manual. Choose the best or most complete answer for each question. The Progress Bar tracks your score – correct answers turn green, wrong ones turn red.
If you’re stuck, our AI Assistant can elaborate or give you a hint. You can also ask the Assistant about other aspects of driving. You can retake the test as often as you want; questions will be randomized each time. We also offer a Virginia Permit Test Study Guide with document checklists, fees, and last-minute tips.

Use this second set to check vehicle equipment plus sharing the road after the first permit practice test
This page is online practice, not the official DMV exam. Use it to check vehicle equipment plus sharing the road, then confirm the current VA testing option before relying on an at-home exam.
Based on the categories assigned to this second practice test pool.
Treat this as a second read, not a repeat of the first practice test.

Test 2 changes the question mix so you can separate understanding from memorized answers.
Use Test 3 to confirm that vehicle equipment plus sharing the road no longer pull your score down.

We mirror recurring themes (e.g., right‑of‑way traps, sign look‑alikes) and use similar distractors and wording styles.
