- Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
- Based on official Connecticut Driver's manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for July 2025
To drive a non-commercial vehicle on Connecticut’s roads, you’ll need a Class D driver’s license. First-time drivers of all ages must complete the state’s Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program, which consists of three stages. Anyone who has not previously held a driver’s license must complete an 8-hour Safe Driving Practices course. Additionally, teen drivers must complete 40 hours of behind-the-wheel practice and hold a learner’s permit for 120 days if they attend a driving school (or 180 days if trained at home). Applicants 18 or older must hold a learner’s permit for at least 90 days before taking a road test.
To obtain a learner’s permit, you must be at least 16, pass a vision screening, and achieve a passing score on a 25-question knowledge exam. We’ll help you build the confidence and knowledge to pass this exam and become a safe and responsible driver. During your learning phase, it is crucial to avoid rushing. Driving theory is not rocket science, but some complex topics may confuse beginners unfamiliar with this subject. Our Connecticut Driver’s Handbook Practice Test can help you understand the various aspects of driving theory while simulating the official testing experience.
Available 24/7, this practice test consists of 25 multiple-choice questions based on the official Connecticut Driver’s Manual (Connecticut DMV Handbook (CT Driver's Manual) 2025). It is up to date as of July 2025, so you will never practice with an outdated version. If you get stuck on a difficult question, our automated assistant can provide hints that will nudge you in the right direction. Additionally, this AI coach can respond to your individual questions and help you understand the reasoning behind the correct answer. Initiate a conversation anytime during an active practice session to receive personalized assistance.
Whether you want to drive to work, obtain a job in the transportation industry, or have more freedom and independence, getting a driver’s license can be a great addition to your life. Since driving is a lifelong skill, it can only be improved gradually. Before you get behind the wheel, you must master driving theory and learn what it takes to become a driver in Connecticut.
