Free Online DMV Written Test Practice for Idaho (2025)
In Idaho, if you are under 17, you must obtain an instruction permit to practice driving under supervision before you may take the skills test for a driver’s license. To obtain a permit, you must meet a set of requirements, including being at least 14½ years old and passing the official vision and knowledge tests. If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian must sign your application (thus providing parental consent), and you must provide proof of attendance at or graduation from high school or the equivalent. In addition, if you’re under 17, you must also complete an approved driver’s education course. If you’re 17 or older, you don’t have to take driver’s education, and an instruction permit is optional. However, you must still pass the vision and knowledge tests before you may take the skills test for a license.
The official Idaho DMV written test covers traffic signs and signals, Idaho traffic laws, and safe driving practices. All questions on the test are based on the official Idaho DMV driver’s 2025 manual (Idaho DMV Handbook (ID Driver's Manual) 2025).
You should study this manual as part of your preparation for the knowledge test. However, this step alone may not be enough. In 2020 – 2023, 34.9% – more than one-third – of applicants failed the DMV knowledge test on their first attempt. Evidently, for many aspiring drivers, just reading the official manual hasn’t been enough to ensure passing the knowledge test.
This is our second Idaho Permit Practice Test. Practicing with it and our other permit practice tests will help you pass the official written knowledge test on your first try. This practice test is up to date as of May 2025 and also based on the official Idaho driver’s license manual. Feel free to ask our AI Assistant for help with any practice question. You can ask it to give you a hint or rephrase the question. You can even ask it your own questions about driving. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will show you the correct answer and an explanation.
In addition to the official manual, we also offer our own Idaho Permit Test Study Guide to help you prepare for the day of the Idaho knowledge test. It covers what fees you may have to pay, what documents to have with you at the knowledge test, frequently missed knowledge test questions, and other last-minute tips.
