  • Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and senior refresher test

Welcome to our free New Jersey Fines and Limits permit practice test! All of our New Jersey practice tests are designed to help you pass the knowledge test for a learner permit. We also hope that this Fines and Limits test will help make you a safer driver by showing you some possible consequences of violating the traffic laws.

This Fines and Limits practice test is up to date as of October 2025. It’s based on New Jersey’s official driver’s manual (New Jersey MVC Handbook (NJ Driver's Manual) 2025) and the New Jersey Revised Statutes.

The 60 questions and answers on this test are primarily concerned with New Jersey’s Point System and various offenses that can lead to your losing your New Jersey driving privileges.

There are questions on the number of points added to your driving record for such common offenses as speeding, tailgating, failing to yield to a pedestrian, and passing a stopped school bus with flashing red lights. There are also questions on the penalties for a first, second, or third conviction for driving under the influence (DUI), including the length of license suspension; the penalties for refusing a breath test for alcohol; and the penalties for reckless driving, driving while your license is suspended for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident (hit and run), and other offenses.

Like the other permit practice tests we offer, this free New Jersey Fines and Limits practice test comes with an automated assistant to help you answer the questions correctly. It can give you a hint if you’re having trouble with a question or an explanation of the correct answer if you’ve answered the question incorrectly.

In 2022 in New Jersey, there were 646 fatal crashes causing the deaths of 689 people, an average of 1.89 traffic deaths per day. 11.7% of the drivers in these fatal accidents were legally intoxicated (alcohol level of 0.08% or higher). 27.4% of the fatalities had consumed some amount of alcohol. The traffic laws are there for everyone’s safety. If you want to keep a clean record as a New Jersey driver, this Fines and Limits Practice Test may help you do just that. Good luck with your learner permit test, and stay safe!

We know how Driver's Ed goes

The material is dry. Studying it is tedious. And you don't want to step foot inside the DMV. So you dread it, avoid it, pretend it doesn't exist. Or you go to the DMV and shoot your shot. You walk in. Take a number. Then the number takes your soul.

Noses sneeze. Babies cry. Frustration groans. And when it's finally time to take your test, you're sweating. Thirty minutes later, you're crying. Because despite your best efforts. You failed. Next thing you know, you're chasing a Waymo in circles to get home (embarrassing!).
That ends here.
At Driving Tests, we know emotions can get in the way of doing what you need to do. So we deliver Driver's Ed that makes it easy to start, and even easier to finish. We get you DMV Smart ASAP. Testing you with real, up-to-date questions. Backing up tricky driving situations with easy-to-grasp visuals & engaging practice tests that reaffirm what you know, and test you again on what you don't. So by the time test day comes - you *own* the DMV. Your only worry? Convincing the proctor you didn't cheat ;)
