It would be sheer folly to believe you could drive to Dollywood without a Tennessee driver’s license. Believe it or not, Ripley! The Great Smoky Mountain Parkway is no place to be without an education in safe driving. If you want to learn the rules of the road, you’ll need to find a resource capable of providing expert instruction. You will need to choose carefully. Otherwise, you’ll be left sitting on the porch eating a Goo Goo Cluster and sippin’ your Mountain Dew.
The Tennessee driver’s license knowledge test is known to present some challenging obstacles to test takers. That’s not to say you need an Ivy League education to pass the official knowledge test. (This is SEC country!) However, Tennessee requires you to answer 80% of the 30 questions correctly to receive a passing score. If you don’t pay close attention to the wording of the question, the specific information it is requesting, and how you arrive at your conclusion, these test questions may confuse you. Luckily, everything you need to successfully prepare for passing the general knowledge test is waiting for you.

Questions are created and maintained by the Driving-Tests.org content team following our multi-layer editorial process and updated whenever the TennesseeDMV changes its handbook or website information. Official sources we check:
Our free Tennessee DMV Diagnostic Driving practice test is based on the most recent Tennessee Driver’s Manual and up to date as of December 2025. Don’t waste time on a study guide! The practice test is more time efficient and improves your chance of passing your official test on the first try. There are 8 questions that are commonly missed on the Tennessee knowledge test. The practice test includes commonly missed questions just like those on the official test. If you submit a wrong answer, you will be provided with a detailed explanation of the correct one. This method is more effective than a study guide because you gain a clear understanding of the information that makes the answer correct. (Study guides primarily focus on helping you memorize the correct answer.) You’ll be ridin’ the FireChaser Express in no time.

Driver handbook • Knowledge‑test/permit overview • Fees & ID requirements • Office/appointment info
How we make exam‑like questions
We mirror recurring themes (e.g., right‑of‑way traps, sign look‑alikes) and use similar distractors and wording styles.
What we don’t do
We don’t collect or publish actual test items and we’re not affiliated with DMV.
