Is your ability to recognize and understand road signs a bit off? Although the questions about road signs on your Tennessee driver’s knowledge test may seem challenging, there is a way for you to become a wiz at answering them. Road signs are important because they keep you safe and roads clear of mishaps. If you take some time to study them, road signs will make those things possible while teaching you valuable rules of the road. For the best results, you need to select from a variety of resources waiting to help.
Since road signs are designed for your safety and controlling traffic, you can expect them to weigh heavily on your chances of passing your knowledge test. (About one-fourth of the questions on the test are about traffic signs and signals.) Our free Tennessee DMV Road Signs practice test helps you recognize them and understand their meanings. The shapes, colors, and symbols of road signs can help you build a foundation for learning them. These features give you clues about upcoming road situations requiring your immediate attention. For instance, a regulatory sign (e.g., Do Not Pass) is always rectangular and alerts you to a traffic law. Warning signs (e.g., Left Lane Ends) usually have a yellow background and warn you of a changing road situation. Special signs provide information and can be associated with various colors, such as orange (Road Work Ahead) and green (Exit).
While you may think a study guide is useful for learning about road signs, our Road Signs practice test will change your mind. Study guides will train you to memorize the answers to questions, but they leave out important supporting information. The Road Signs practice test is based on the most recent Tennessee DMV driver’s manual (Tennessee DMV Handbook (TN Driver's Manual) 2025) and is up to date as of October 2025. You will find it easy to understand and stress-free. This approach creates an optimal learning experience, enabling you to retain and apply the information presented. The practice test includes 50 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers. Each question has a picture of a road sign, which you must identify and explain its meaning. If you get a question wrong, a detailed explanation of the correct answer is provided. This information will fill any knowledge gaps you may have. The practice test is your fastest and most effective way to safe driving.
