With a driver’s license, you’ll be able to drive yourself to work in Richmond, Hampton Roads, or Northern Virginia (NOVA) via Interstate 64, 95, or 495 (the Capital Beltway). You can also take in the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the Blue Ridge Parkway or savor the vistas from the scenic overlooks on Skyline Drive. Or drive anywhere else you desire.
But what if you fail the knowledge exam for a learner’s permit? Then, compared with the freedom of a driver’s license, you’ll be effectively grounded. You won’t even be able to practice driving under supervision. You’ll have to depend on others to drive you around when they can.
You may be thinking, “The knowledge exam is easy. I’ll just read the official driver’s manual (Virginia DMV Handbook (VA Driver's Manual) 2026) a couple of times before the exam.” A lot of other aspiring drivers thought so too. But in 2020 – 2023, 48.2% – nearly half – of aspiring drivers failed the knowledge test.
To be sure of passing the knowledge test, you need to do more than just read the manual. That’s why we’ve provided you with various interactive test preparation materials to help you learn and memorize all the information you need to pass the knowledge test.
