District Columbia DMV Permit Practice Test Questions 2025

  • Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and senior refresher test

Residents of the District of Columbia are accustomed to heavy traffic, especially during rush hour. The US capital has a complex street layout, including diagonal avenues intersecting the grid system. You’ll often drive on several bridges and tunnels to cross the Potomac River. In DC, governmental convoys are common. They include emergency vehicles, government officials, and even heavily armored limousines. If you encounter a convoy while driving, you must remain calm, slow down, and follow the instructions of police officers.

The official written knowledge test is given at the DC DMV service centers. You must pay a $10 fee and answer 30 questions. Each question has four different answer choices, but only one is correct. To pass, you must score 80% or higher. We’ll help you pass this exam on your first attempt, but you must dedicate the following weeks to studying the various aspects of driving theory.

Evaluate your knowledge with a simulation of the DC DMV written knowledge test. This intuitive tool is available online and can be accessed on any device that supports a browser and has an active internet connection. Each practice test has 40 multiple-choice questions based on the latest version of the official District of Columbia driver manual (District of Columbia DMV Handbook (DC Driver's Manual) 2025). When you answer correctly, the question will be marked green in the progress overview. Mistakes are common among beginners, and you shouldn’t let them discourage you. Choosing an incorrect answer marks the question red, and immediate feedback is provided. Pay attention to this detailed explanation and use it to learn from your mistakes as soon as they occur. Note it down in a notebook or notebook app and revisit the material during future training sessions.

Hints are available whenever you get stuck on a difficult question. Ask our automated assistant to provide clarity and give you insight that nudges you in the right direction without revealing the correct answer. Start today and train consistently with our practice tests. With repetition, you’ll master driving theory and ace the official written knowledge test with confidence.

We know how Driver's Ed goes

The material is dry. Studying it is tedious. And you don't want to step foot inside the DMV. So you dread it, avoid it, pretend it doesn't exist. Or you go to the DMV and shoot your shot. You walk in. Take a number. Then the number takes your soul.

Noses sneeze. Babies cry. Frustration groans. And when it's finally time to take your test, you're sweating. Thirty minutes later, you're crying. Because despite your best efforts. You failed. Next thing you know, you're chasing a Waymo in circles to get home (embarrassing!).
That ends here.
At Driving Tests, we know emotions can get in the way of doing what you need to do. So we deliver Driver's Ed that makes it easy to start, and even easier to finish. We get you DMV Smart ASAP. Testing you with real, up-to-date questions.
