Free North Dakota DOT Written Test Study Guide 2025

  • Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
  • Based on official North Dakota Driver's manual
  • Triple-checked for accuracy
  • Updated for September 2025

In North Dakota, getting your driver’s license starts with earning a learner’s permit. You can apply for a permit as early as age 14. To qualify, you must pass a vision test and the official 25-question written knowledge exam. To pass the exam, you must score 80% or higher, leaving little room for error. This exam covers topics like traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving practices. Driving theory is thoroughly described in the official North Dakota Noncommercial Driver License Manual (North Dakota DMV Handbook (ND Driver's Manual) 2025). Please read its contents at least once to familiarize yourself with the basic aspects.

Once you have your learner’s permit, you must hold it for at least 12 months if you’re under 16, or 6 months if you’re 16 or older. During this time, you must complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving, including 10 at night. If you’re under 16, you must also complete an approved driver education course. Our North Dakota DOT Written Test Study Guide practice test makes it easier for you to master driving theory. This practice test consists of 20 multiple-choice questions based on the official noncommercial driver license manual.

The simple and straightforward interface allows even those unskilled with computers to easily control the practice test. On the left side of the page, the “Test settings” menu includes several features you can use to customize your testing experience. If the text is too small and you have difficulty reading, use the slider to increase the font size to your preference. Any questions you answer incorrectly will be automatically added to your personal Challenge Bank™. Questions in the Challenge Bank will remain there until you answer them correctly. Please visit this section between your training sessions to learn from your mistakes and identify areas that need improvement.

Remember, mastering driving theory takes time and consistent effort. You should not expect overnight results, and we recommend dedicating the following weeks to your learning phase. By using our North Dakota DOT Written Test Study Guide practice test, you’ll build a solid foundation for your driving skills.

We know how Driver's Ed goes

The material is dry. Studying it is tedious. And you don't want to step foot inside the DMV. So you dread it, avoid it, pretend it doesn't exist. Or you go to the DMV and shoot your shot. You walk in. Take a number. Then the number takes your soul.

Noses sneeze. Babies cry. Frustration groans. And when it's finally time to take your test, you're sweating. Thirty minutes later, you're crying. Because despite your best efforts. You failed. Next thing you know, you're chasing a Waymo in circles to get home (embarrassing!).
That ends here.
At Driving Tests, we know emotions can get in the way of doing what you need to do. So we deliver Driver's Ed that makes it easy to start, and even easier to finish. We get you DMV Smart ASAP. Testing you with real, up-to-date questions. Backing up tricky driving situations with easy-to-grasp visuals & engaging practice tests that reaffirm what you know, and test you again on what you don't. So by the time test day comes - you *own* the DMV. Your only worry? Convincing the proctor you didn't cheat ;)
