When preparing for your Texas driver’s knowledge test, you need to make sure you can recognize and understand road signs. Road signs are important for maintaining public safety and keeping traffic flowing smoothly. These signs alert, warn, and inform you of road situations requiring your immediate attention. Additionally, you will find them helpful for learning road rules to keep you in compliance with the law. While there are many on-line resources available, you need to choose one to make you a star among other Lone Star State drivers.
Our free Texas DMV Road Signs practice test will elevate your knowledge and help you apply it to your driving skills. A significant portion of your knowledge test assesses your ability to understand road signs and may affect your chances of achieving a passing score. If you begin your study by becoming familiar with the shapes and colors of various types of road signs, you will lay a foundation for understanding their messaging. For example, an octagonal (eight-sided) sign always alerts you to stop. A diamond-shaped sign, such as Loose Gravel, warns you of an upcoming road situation that may be hazardous. Horizontal rectangular signs are typically used for guide signs that provide important information about your current location, directions to destinations, or the availability of services, such as a gas station.

Although study guides are popular and commonly used to prepare for official knowledge tests, the Road Signs practice test exceeds their level of preparation. The practice test is based on the most recent Texas DMV driver’s manual (Texas DMV Handbook (TX Driver's Manual) 2025) and is up to date as of December 2025. It consists of 50 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers. Each question uses a picture of a road sign, which you are asked to identify and demonstrate your understanding. It is a stress-free exercise; you should not worry about wrong answers. If you get a question wrong, you will get a detailed explanation of the correct answer. Study guides will help you memorize the answers to the questions, but they won’t offer any additional information. The feedback information from the practice test helps you make a connection between the question and the answer. You will be amazed at the confidence and skill the practice test provides.
