How to Get Your New Jersey Learner’s Permit

Most people think one or two quizzes is enough - then the MVC knowledge exam surprises them. On Driving-Tests.org, every question is based on the official New Jersey Driver’s Manual and written in real exam style: tricky wording, double-negatives, and the same pitfalls people miss at the counter.

How to study (step by step)

  1. Start your application

Begin your application online with the New Jersey MVC. You must be 16 or older if enrolled in a driver training course; 17 or older otherwise. (Parental/guardian consent required if under 18.)

  2. Take the Diagnostic Test

Check your baseline so your practice is focused.

  3. Practice Tests (At least 2–3 sets)

Complete at least 2–3 sets. Short 10-minute sessions work best.

  4. Clear your mistakes

Open the Challenge Bank and fix every missed question, then repeat the ones you miss again.

  5. Practice exam simulator

Keep practicing until you’re consistently scoring 80% or higher.

Study habit
  • 3–5 short study sessions per week
  • 80–120 total practice questions
With your permit

Made me feel very prepared.
Just passed my permit test! All of the questions made me feel very prepared, and during the test I knew exactly what I was being asked.

A breeze to pass!
Wow, I studied for just two days and aced the knowledge test! I only missed two questions, but it was a breeze for me to pass.

It’s the only program you will ever need.
Do it diligently and use the flash cards to learn the difficult part such as GDL rules, penalties and fines. This is easier than trying to memorise the manual or do random free MVC practice tests online which will be repetitive and not cover the whole syllabus.

I went to the MVC calm and confident and passed quickly!
Very helpful for passing the test! I studied the NJ manual on my own and then used driving-tests.org’s 1-week permit practice. It was a great help. There were plenty of practice questions with clear explanations, and the exam simulator was very useful too. Definitely recommend!
