- Start your application
At age 15 or older, begin your application online with the New Mexico MVD. (Parental/guardian consent required if under 18.)

Keep practicing until you’re consistently scoring 72% or higher.

NM MVD permit test - what to expect
The New Mexico permit test has 25 questions. You must get 18 correct (72%) to pass.
- Where: Any New Mexico MVD office (find locations)
- Bring: ID + SSN + residency proof + permit/license fee (see checklist)
- If you fail: Retake after 24 hours.
- Commonly missed: school zone speed limits and stopping for school buses, emergency vehicle right-of-way.
