- Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
- Based on official Alabama Driver's manual
- Triple-checked for accuracy
- Updated for June 2025
Any person 15 years of age may obtain a restricted learner’s license in Alabama, which employs a Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program for its residents seeking to drive. Obtaining a learner license (learner’s permit) allows you to practice driving before taking the road exam. (If you’re under 18, you must hold the permit for at least six months or until you turn 18, whichever comes first.) After passing the official written knowledge test, you will be issued a Class D Alabama driver’s license with a “Y” restriction. This restriction indicates that the holder may only drive a vehicle under the supervision of a fully licensed driver aged 21 or older or a certified driving instructor in the front passenger seat.
The official written knowledge test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions. You must answer them before the timer ends, and a score of 80% or higher is required to pass. To ace this exam on your first attempt, you should study driving theory with our Alabama Driver’s Handbook Practice Test. It can help you master this subject through active learning, which many students find more effective than traditional study methods. We have recently updated this practice test for June 2025, so you will always use the latest version.
All 30 multiple-choice questions are based on the official Alabama Driver Manual (Alabama DMV Handbook (AL Driver's Manual) 2025). Their format resembles the ones you will encounter at the DMV location, helping you prepare ahead of time. Since it is impossible to predict the exact questions you will get on exam day, you should focus on gradually improving your general driving knowledge. Do not memorize the correct answers without understanding the reasoning behind them. We provide a detailed explanation for each question, which we recommend noting down in a notebook or notebook app.
When you learn driving theory, you build the foundation of a lifelong skill. With unlimited attempts and nonstop access to our practice test, there’s no limit to how often you can study. Use this intuitive tool alongside the official driver’s handbook to boost your learning potential and become a safe and responsible driver.
