Welcome to our free Indiana Fines and Limits permit practice test! This special test focuses on the legal consequences of traffic offenses, especially the loss of driving privileges. Learn the lengths of license suspension for various offenses, such as failing to pay or address speeding tickets, driving an uninsured vehicle, failing a chemical test for drugs or alcohol, refusing such a chemical test, and driving when your license is already suspended. Learn the possible lengths of license suspension for habitual traffic violators. Also, learn the lengths of license suspension for certain non-driving-related offenses.
Learn how many points will be added to your driving manual for such common violations as tailgating, running a stop sign, speeding at various speeds, and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle that is using its siren and flashing lights. Learn about the consequences of excessive point accumulation and how the points on your driving record can be reduced.
This practice test is based on Indiana’s official driver’s manual (Indiana BMV Handbook (IN Driver's Manual) 2025) and the Indiana Code. It has 50 multiple-choice questions and is up to date as of October 2025. Like our other Indiana practice tests, the Indiana Fines and Limits practice test comes with our automated assistant, which can supply you with hints and explanations of the correct answers.
In Indiana in 2022, there were 206,923 total crashes, including 900 fatal collisions involving 964 total traffic fatalities (14.1 per 100,000 population). 72 of these total fatalities involved alcohol impairment.
71 (9.4%) of the drivers involved in fatal crashes were legally impaired (a BAC of 0.08% or higher). This percentage varied by vehicle type: 18.2% of motorcycle operators, 10.4% of passenger car drivers, 6.3% of pickup truck drivers, and 6.2% of SUV drivers involved in fatal crashes were legally impaired.
18,098 crashes (8.7% of all crashes) and 253 fatal crashes (28.1% of fatal crashes) were speed related. 13% of all motorcycle crashes were speed related, compared with 5.0% of car crashes and 4.9% of all vehicle crashes. 508 drivers had been speeding; 3.1% of these speeding drivers were also legally impaired.
39,030 drivers ages 15 to 20 were involved in collisions, and 48 young drivers were killed in collisions.
28,722 (13.9%) of the 206,923 total crashes were hit-and-run.
You should know the license suspensions and other penalties for your learner’s permit knowledge exam. These penalties should also remind you of the potentially serious consequences of violating the traffic laws. Remembering the possible consequences can help you avoid trouble on Indiana’s roadways!
