Free Online DMV Written Test Practice for South Carolina (2025)
You’ve made the big decision: it’s time for you to get a driver’s license. You’re at least 15 years old, so you are old enough to begin the process of getting one. Now what?
In South Carolina, if you’ve never held a driver’s license before, you must obtain an instruction permit and hold it for at least 180 days before you may apply for a driver’s license. Your permit will allow you to practice driving under supervision. The requirements for obtaining an instruction permit include passing the official South Carolina DMV written knowledge test on driving theory.
All the questions and their answers on the knowledge test are based on the official driver’s manual (South Carolina DMV Handbook (SC Driver's Manual) 2025). Therefore, you should start to prepare for the knowledge test by reading this manual. Your next step is to reinforce and enhance what you’ve learned through intensive practice.
Welcome to our second South Carolina Permit Practice Test! We designed all our permit practice tests to help aspiring drivers like you pass the DMV knowledge test on their first try. Like the official knowledge test, these practice tests are based on the official South Carolina driver’s manual and are up to date as of May 2025. All practice questions are multiple choice. You must choose the best or most complete answer for each question.
Watch the Progress Bar to keep track of your score thus far. When you get a question right, the question number will turn green. If you miss a question, the question number will turn red. As you take this practice test, our AI Assistant will be there for you. If you get stuck on a question, ask the AI Assistant to elaborate or give you a hint. You can also ask it your own questions about driving. If you still miss the question, the AI Assistant will provide you with the correct answer and an explanation.
In addition, we have two PDF “cheat sheets” (not for actual cheating, though!) for you: “The Top 100 Most Common US DMV Questions” and “The 121 Most Common US Road Signs Questions.” You will probably encounter some of these questions on your knowledge test. Each “cheat sheet” includes the correct answer for each question listed.
Even with all your studying, are you still worried that something may go wrong on the day of the knowledge test? We also offer our own South Carolina Permit Test Study Guide to help you prevent any unpleasant surprises. It covers how to prepare your mind and body for the test, what documents to take to the DMV office, what fees you may have to pay, and other last-minute tips.
