At age 14 or older, begin your application online with the Alaska DMV. (Parental/guardian consent required if under 18.)
- Take the Diagnostic Test

- Clear your mistakes
Use the Challenge Bank to review every missed question and correct it.
- Practice exam simulator
Keep practicing until you’re consistently scoring 80% or higher.
- 3–5 short study sessions per week
- 80–120 total practice questions
AK DMV permit test - what to expect
The Alaska permit test has 20 questions. You must get 16 correct (80%) to pass.
- Where: Any Alaska DMV office (find locations)
- Bring: ID + SSN + residency proof + permit/license fee (see checklist)
- If you fail: Retake after 1 day.
- Commonly missed: legal blood alcohol limits and DUI rules, headlight usage and when to turn them on.
