- Start your application
At age 15 or older, begin your application online with the Nebraska DMV. (You may start at age 14 years, 2 months if you live or go to school in a rural area outside a city of 5,000 or more people.) (Parental/guardian consent required if under 18.)

- Practice Tests (At least 2–3 sets)

- Clear your mistakes
Use the Challenge Bank to correct every missed question and review the explanation.
- Practice exam simulator
Keep practicing until you’re consistently scoring 80% or higher.

NE DMV permit test - what to expect
The Nebraska permit test has 25 questions. You must get 20 correct (80%) to pass.
- Where: Any Nebraska DMV office (find locations)
- Bring: ID + SSN + residency proof + permit/license fee (see checklist)
- If you fail: Retake after 1 day (90 days after 6 failed knowledge tests)
- Commonly missed: basic vehicle maintenance and pre-drive checks, railroad crossing procedures.
