Free Virginia Driver’s Handbook Practice Test (2026)
Avg. first-try score: 91%
Perfect for:Learner’s permit applicants
First‑time adult applicants
To get a driver’s license in Virginia, teen applicants must complete the Graduated Driver’s Licensing (GDL) program. They must log 45 hours of supervised driving (including 15 at night), hold their learner’s permit for 9 months, finish a state-approved driver education program, and pass the official written knowledge exam. This exam has two parts. The first part consists of 10 traffic sign questions, all of which you must answer correctly to pass. The second part has 30 general multiple-choice questions, requiring a minimum score of 80% to pass. Teens who fail this exam must wait 15 days before trying again. Adult aspiring drivers are not subject to the GDL. They must pass both parts of the official written knowledge exam and either complete an approved driver education course or hold a Virginia learner’s permit for at least 60 days before taking the skills test.
To increase your chances of passing the official written knowledge exam on your first attempt, you should incorporate practice tests into your study routine. Our Virginia Driver’s Handbook Practice Test can help you master driving theory through active learning. This practice test is current for February 2026 to reflect the latest changes brought by DMV rules or state law. You will always practice with the latest version, but we recommend checking the official VA DMV website for the most up-to-date information.
