District of Columbia DMV Fines and Limits Permit Practice Test 2024

We bet you’re here because you wanted to take some of our practice tests to help you pass the official knowledge test for a District of Columbia learner permit. We hope you’ve been doing that and you found our practice tests helpful. Those practice tests tend to focus on the rules of the road and other traffic laws in the District of Columbia. But this practice test, which you’re about to take, isn’t primarily about those things.

Many of the questions on this free District of Columbia Fines and Limits permit practice test are about the official penalties you may face if you violate the rules of the road or other traffic laws. Some other questions are about the Gradual Rearing of Adult Drivers (GRAD) Program for aspiring drivers under 21 years of age. Some of the questions on this practice test are among the most difficult we offer. They also serve to remind you that violating the traffic laws can have serious consequences.

This practice test is up to date as of December 2024. The 50 questions on this practice test are based on District of Columbia’s official driver’s manual (District of Columbia DMV Handbook (DC Driver's Manual) 2024) and the District of Columbia Code.

Some of the practice questions and answers deal with the consequences of excess point accumulation, including the number of points on your driving record that can lead to suspension of your driver license; the length of time that points remain on your driving record; the penalties for a first or third offense of driving under the influence (DUI); and some non-driving-related offenses that may lead to license suspension or revocation. Regarding the GRAD Program, there are questions on the restrictions on driving with a learner permit, the restrictions on driving with a provisional license, and the restrictions on driving even with a full license if you’re under 18 years of age.

As with all the permit practice tests we offer, each question on the District of Columbia Fines and Limits permit practice test comes with an optional hint and an explanation of the correct answer, courtesy of our automated assistant.

In 2022, there were 39 drivers involved in fatal crashes in the District of Columbia. These fatal crashes resulted in 32 traffic fatalities, including 8 passenger vehicle occupant fatalities, 16 pedestrian fatalities, 4 motorcyclist fatalities, and 3 cyclist fatalities. In other words, 50% of the fatalities were pedestrians, compared with 18% nationwide. Also, 51% of the vehicles involved in fatal crashes were passenger cars, compared with 33% nationwide.

Violating the traffic laws doesn’t just invite legal penalties. It also risks a serious accident.

Good luck with your learner permit test, and please drive safely!
