Attention, teenagers and adults alike! The Ocean State requires you to obtain a learner’s permit as part of the process for becoming an independent licensed driver. To obtain a learner’s permit, you must pass the Rhode Island DMV written Knowledge Exam and a vision screening. The official exam is multiple choice and requires a minimum passing score of 80% (40 out of 40 questions must be answered correctly). That leaves little room for error. However, our free Rhode Island DMV Written Permit Test Questions & Answers Practice Tests are the perfect tool to cut away the unnecessary fluff and focus on what really counts for you to pass the official exam on your first attempt. Our practice questions mirror the structure and phrasing of the official test and feature interactive AI-powered responses to help you develop the conceptual understanding needed to pass. Going way beyond ineffective static pdfs and outdated study guides, our Challenge Bank™ remembers missed questions so you can revisit and master them before tackling the official exam. Passing on your first attempt saves you time and potential added retest fees.
In Rhode Island, applicants may begin the licensing process as teenagers through the state’s graduated driver licensing (GDL) structure. For the first stage, a limited learner permit is available to applicants between 16 and 18 years old who have completed the state’s required driver education program. Adults must also earn the permit but are not subject to the GDL timing requirements and staging progress that apply to minors.
The knowledge test evaluates how well you understand the rules and responsibilities of the road and focuses on real driving situations and decision making. Topics covered include following right-of-way rules, recognizing traffic signs and pavement markings, responding to pedestrians and cyclists, managing speed and following distances, and complying with school bus and work zone laws. Our practice tests cover all needed material with photorealistic questions and even provide a review at the end of each practice test, identifying topics that need further study.
